Pumpkin Pickin’
October 19th, 2010. (2 years, 4 months old.) by benThe weekend before last, M&D took me out to pick a pumpkin for Halloween. This seemed like big responsibility, especially for someone with no experience, but I decided to give it a go. We got to the patch a little on the early side, so I had the place all to myself. Easy pickins’, right?
Well, it turns out this means you have lots of time to stomp around and check out a lot of pumpkins…
But I finally found one that I liked.
After that, it was time to climb the hay bales,
and visit with the calves, piglets, goats, and chickens who were there.
Mommy wouldn’t let me take the calf home, but by the time we had to go, I’d found two good pumpkins to take with us!
Nothing like a long day of punkin pickin to wear a fellow out. I’m sure Ben will be much better equipped to pick out a punkin next year with all of his newly found experience. Just wait till he finds out you can make pies out of those punkins! He’ll want to bring home a bunch more!
Picking just the “right” pumpkin is always a big job! Ben did quite well for his first time out! And I concur with Granpa Don—let’s teach Ben how to make some yummy pies with those pumpkins! Although, I tried that once and it was a disaster! Cooking the pumpkins works much better, the same way you would cook squash. So Ben, just try cooking and eating the pumpkins with a little butter and cinnamon!
