New Glasses

March 15th, 2015. (2 years, 2 months old.) by andrew

I got my new glasses. Turns out you can still eat pancakes with ’em.

And Daddy still shares his berry smoothies with me, and they still taste the same!

Soooo… so far this is working out!

Ed Note: Some interesting information about how vision prescriptions for non-verbal kids are made, and a bit about Accommodative Esotropia.  Andrew is so far (1 day) taking very well to his new glasses.

Andrew. Looking cool in your new glasses. Hopefully these will correct your vision problems and you can get back to not using glasses soon.

Thank you to daddy for the instructional videos! You have made Andrew’s situation understandable to those of us unfamiliar with it. Andrew looks really cool and comfortable with his new glasses, and even though they are new and may be uncomfortable for a while, Andrew can see things much better and that will make him happier. We love you, Andrew, and we are so pleased that you have the parents that you have to help you! Love, Ma and Pa

Unfortunately, the hyperopia (farsightedness) is likely to persist for as long as Andrew’s eyeballs are the shape they are, which may be some years or for his entire life. And he’ll need to wear the glasses in order that both eyes will give his brain good inputs, so his brain won’t give up on one eye, which leads to losing stereo vision.

And after 3 days, Andrew is doing remarkably well with the glasses, especially in just tolerating wearing them. His caregiver reports today that he attempted to climb a structure at daycare today that he’s never attempted before.
