Visit to Armstrong Woods

June 29th, 2013. (5 years old.) by ben

Some friends and I took a trip to Armstrong Woods to see – and climb on – the big trees.

We had a great time!

Safari West Field Trip

June 7th, 2013. (5 years old.) by ben

The Penguins went on a field trip to Safari West!  It was fun and exciting to see all of the strange animals, like these lemurs.

My favorite was the flamingos.  They have a very pretty color.

They had lots of monkeys of all different kinds.

For the second part of the trip, we rode on a bus with no sides out to where the giraffes and rhinos were!  There were also addax, bongos, kudu, and a red river hog.

The giraffes were very tall – and friendly.  They came right up to visit with us and say hello!

Racing with Grandpa

May 30th, 2013. (4 years, 11 months old.) by ben

While Grandpa Stark was visiting, we went out to the races. He likes it when people come to watch him, and I like going out to see him.

I got to drive the racing chair in Grandpa’s race car trailer. It is very fast!

I get to walk around the pits all I want. I wear my ear covers because the race cars are loud!

Family Walk

January 2nd, 2013. (4 years, 7 months old.) by ben

The other day we went for a family walk.  It was kind of raining, so we wore our raincoats.  The good thing about rain is when you have some sun too, because you can get a rainbow!

This rainbow was actually a double one, but it’s hard to see in the picture.

We also explored the park, which had lots and lots of water that was really deep.  I thought maybe we could go swimming, but Daddy wouldn’t let me go in!  I wonder why?

After the park, we also explored ‘Skyhawk Lake’.  The ground was really skooshy.

Factory Tour: Jelly Belly Factory

December 27th, 2012. (4 years, 6 months old.) by ben

We went to take a tour of the Jelly Belly factory, which was a long car drive from our house.  It was still decorated for Christmas.  Can you believe how big that tree is?

Inside, there’s a giant flying Jelly Belly guy. And lots of candy.

We met Shannon and her family there for the tour.

They make pictures out of all the different colored Jelly Bellies.  This one is the Statue of Liberty.

Daddy said we weren’t allowed to take pictures of the machines and people during the tour.  But it was really fun to see.  There were millions of Jelly Bellies, and they were all different colors.  There were lots of conveyor belts and robots moving boxes of candy around.  At one point, there was a robot that waved to us!

Ice Skating

December 24th, 2012. (4 years, 6 months old.) by ben

Yesterday we went ice skating!

We started out just going for a ride around the ice.  It was fun!

Then it was time to put the chair away and really try this out.  The ice was very slippery, but Daddy was a big help.

A little later, there was a lesson on the basics.  The ice was still very slippery.   And cold.  But I was nice and warm with my truck sweatshirt from Ma, and my ice cream hat that Mommy made.

Once we were all done, we went to the Warm Puppy Café for a hot chocolate.  My friend Sydney was there with us.

We had a great time!

Legoland!

November 26th, 2012. (4 years, 5 months old.) by ben

I just got back from my Thanksgiving trip to SoCal, and I wanted to share my trip to Legoland!

Even before we got into the park, we could tell we were in the right place.  As Mommy would say, “Daddy and I were in the target market”.

First up was a ride on my first roller coaster: the Coastersaurous!

I wasn’t scared at all.  It was really fun!  You go up a hill, and then down and around two circles… then you get to do it again!

We also went on the Sky Patrol helicopters.  I got to show Daddy how to make it go up and down and turn around!

Later, it was the Flight Squadron airplanes.  Daddy did a great job of going on the rides with me so we could have fun together.

We had lunch, and I got a special treat: Chocolate covered marshmallows with M&Ms stuck on. Yum.

I had a great time with Grandma Harris, Mommy, and Daddy.  I can’t wait to go back next time!

Airshow!

August 20th, 2012. (4 years, 2 months old.) by ben

Daddy and I went to the airshow yesterday for pancakes and airplanes.  Before we had pancakes, I got ready with my ear covers.  You can’t be too careful!

After breakfast, our first stop was a helicopter that I’d been in before.  This time I really got to move some switches and move the controls around!

Next, we visited the C-17.  Boy is this a big airplane!

I waited for a turn to sit up in the cockpit.  Did you know that you can open up the windows here in front?  And the pilots can, too… while they’re flying!  Also, you can get a good view of the engines (and the rest of the show) from up here.

After that, I landed an airplane hat and did some Army jeep driving…

…and some pink elephant driving.

Weeeeee!!  Maybe next year, I’ll get to see some airplanes flying!

Dinner Hike at Zoey’s

June 10th, 2012. (4 years old.) by ben

I always like going to visit my friend Zoey.  Last time we went on a hike for dinner.

We had a picnic dinner with lots to eat!

On the way back, we needed to stop and rest.  It was a long hike!

Gone Fishin’

May 28th, 2012. (3 years, 11 months old.) by ben

Today, M&D took me fishing at a local fishin’ hole.  They had a dock and everything.

I started by practicing with the net.  I got me!

Then Daddy got our hook in the water and I did some reeling.

After a while, I left the fishing to Daddy and I just did the netting.  Here we are, catching our 4th fish!

We’re planning to have fish for dinner tonight.  Anybody know how to cook trout?  Anyone?

Ed. Note: Thanks Jim for the loan of the pole and tackle!
